2012 Volkswagen CC

For 2012, the Volkswagen CC adds two new trims and some interior updates to its stylish 4-door sedan. The CC goes beyond what one thinks of in a Volkswagen, looking more like a midsized entry into the luxury category. Six available models include the returning Sport, R-Line, Lux and Executive trims, while the new Lux Plus and Lux Limited join the lineup.

Despite having four doors, the CC is more reminiscent of a coupe, with a sleek outline that draws the eye and invites one to test its road capabilities. Automatic headlights are standard on the base Sport model, as are automatic windshield wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and power mirrors with integrated turn signals. The R-Line adds 18-inch wheels, fog lamps, and front-bumper styling and darkened taillights that are unique to this trim. The Lux and Executive models feature different 18-inch wheels, while the Lux Plus and above add a power, tilted sunroof. The Executive ups the ante further through Bi-Xenon headlights with adaptive lighting.

Most CC models have front-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine that offers 200 horsepower and 207 lbs/ft of torque. The Sport and R-Line models have a manual, six-speed transmission, while the Lux trims come with an automatic, six-speed, dual-clutch system; the automatic is also available on both the Sport and R-Line. EPA mileage estimates for the 4-cylinder automatic reach 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Manual transmissions deliver 21 city mpg. The Executive model features more power in a 3.6-liter, V6 engine with 280 horsepower and 265 lbs/ft of torque. A six-speed, automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard, and mileage estimates run to 17 city mpg and 25 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features on all models are plentiful and include antilock brakes with brake assist, stability and traction control, an intelligent crash-response system, an anti-theft alarm system, emergency-release safety restraints, and front, side, and full-length, side-curtain airbags. Door locks engage automatically above 8 mph and release if the airbags deploy. The Lux Plus, Limited and Executive models also include a rearview camera, while the Executive adds parking sensors to help prevent mishaps.

The interior of this 2012 Volkswagen is unique in offering seating for four. It includes a rear-seat center console with a storage compartment and

drink holders, embodying the Comfort Coupe designation of the CC. Individual models shine with enhancements, including an impressive array of features on the Sport model. Standard elements include cruise control, leatherette seats, power driver's seat, heated front seats, hands-free Bluetooth, media interface, and a premium, touchscreen stereo system with a 6-CD changer, eight speakers and MP3 capabilities.

The Lux adds dual-zone climate control, a navigation system, and brushed-aluminum trim for the dash and center console. The Lux Plus and Limited feature an upgraded navigation system, wood dashboard trim, and Homelink for automatic garage-door and other controls. The Executive trim increases the luxury factor with a multi-function trip computer, upgraded stereo, rear-window sunshade, leather seating and driver's seat memory with a massage feature.
